EDUCATION

Continuing Professional Development is an activity that is relevant to members and assists their professional development. It is, in fact, the planned acquisition of knowledge, experience and skills, and the development of personal qualities. Without us even thinking about it, we are constantly learning and developing. The CII want people to see this as a benefit rather than a chore. Undertaking CPD helps members to develop professionally and enhances their career prospects. CPD activity should be a balance of progress relevant to current roles and that which helps build professional and future careers.

This scheme is obligatory and applies as a condition of membership for all qualified members of the CII, The Personal Finance Society and The Society of Mortgage Professionals. Non-compliance with the CPD requirements will affect a member’s right to use a designatory or chartered title which they have been granted.

Retired members who are no longer engaged in any insurance and financial services business do not require to complete CPD recording. Semi-retired members will be required to remain up-to-date by complying with the requirements of the CPD scheme in full, as do members who are working part time.

The requirement is the accumulation of a minimum of 100 credits in each twelve month period, made up of CPD activity relevant to each member. Attendance at our educational presentations can gain members 15 credits.

CII Examinations 2007 and 2008

We administer the exam centre here in Tunbridge Wells on behalf the CII. The main exams are held during April and October each year and are currently held at the Spa Hotel.

From January 2007 all the Financial Services multiple-choice tested exams have been delivered and tested online at specialist computer centres throughout the UK. The format, study material and knowledge required for these exams has not altered from the previous “paper based” versions - except they are now completed “online” rather than with paper and pencil. There are clear advantages to the new system in that you can enter the exam when you are ready rather than on a pre-determined exam date. Also you can receive your “provisional results” at the end of the exam from the invigilators. The official confirmation and certificate will follow direct from the CII. If unsuccessful you can complete re-sits of the exams after 5 working days.

For exam availability go to www.cii.co.uk and follow the links – financial services – qualifications – exam title e.g. CF1 – enter your postcode and preferred exam date and click on “find options” for a list of dates and venues available.
